Family and Personal Finances is an independent educational website built and maintained by SupportCALL. It is not a government service and is not affiliated with the ATO, ASIC or any other authority. It exists to make trustworthy money information freely available to everyone in Australia.
Who runs this site
This site is published by SupportCALL (ABN 79 281 357 049), based in Launceston, Tasmania. SupportCALL is an independent ICT business; this site is a free educational resource, not a commercial financial product.
Despite covering government schemes and official figures, this is an independent site. We are not the ATO, ASIC, Services Australia, Housing Australia, the State Revenue Office Tasmania, or any other authority, and we are not endorsed by them. For official decisions, always use the official source, which we link throughout.
Our approach
- Free and open. No paywalls, no accounts required, no selling of your data.
- Factual and sourced. Every material figure is checked against the controlling official source and dated. See the sources register.
- Private by design. The tools run in your browser; we do not collect your financial details. See the privacy notice.

What this site covers - and what it does not
This site aims to cover the everyday money decisions most Australian households face. It covers a lot, but no single resource can cover every possible situation, so here is where the edges are.
What it covers well
- Everyday money: bank accounts and how to structure them (including an account structure planner for couples, singles, and families with children), budgeting, saving, and emergency funds.
- Debt: which debts to clear first, repayment methods, and where to get free help.
- Tax: income tax, offsets, deductions, lodging a return, and study-loan (HELP) repayments.
- Superannuation: how it works, contributions, consolidating, and the First Home Super Saver.
- Investing basics: shares, ETFs, diversification, and avoiding scams.
- Buying a home: deposits, first-home schemes, and the real costs of ownership.
- Saving for children, and teaching them about money.
What it does not cover in depth (get specialist help)
These areas are important but need tailored, often licensed, advice. We point you to the right places rather than giving shallow guidance:
- Running a business or being self-employed (BAS, GST, business structures) - see the ATO and a registered tax agent or accountant.
- Detailed insurance selection and claims (life, income protection, TPD) - consider a licensed adviser; your super fund may offer help.
- Retirement drawdown, account-based pensions and the Age Pension specifics - Services Australia's free Financial Information Service can help.
- Estate planning, wills and powers of attorney - a solicitor or community legal centre.
- Relationship breakdown, separation and property settlements - legal advice.
- Aged care costs, disability and NDIS financial planning - specialist services.
- Complex or high-value investing, tax structuring, or anything needing personal financial product advice - a licensed financial adviser.

How this site makes money
This site does not run advertising, does not use affiliate links, and does not receive commissions for mentioning any product, bank, fund or scheme. Nothing on this site is a paid placement. If that ever changes, it will be clearly disclosed here and on the affected page.
